The Big Shop and Menu Planner Fridge List is a kitchen essential for any family that is looking to get to grips with meal planning. With an abundance of space to note your meals for the week, create comprehensive shopping lists and a handy paperwork pocket to store coupons and receipts, this is a clever addition to any household, but especially so for the Apicella’s.
Laura and her family revolutionised their evening routine by introducing a Big Shop and Menu Fridge List into their kitchen. Previously she was cooking multiple meals every evening and felt overwhelmed when planning the weekly shop. Now, more than ever, it's especially important to be making good use of the ingredients we already have in order to maintain a healthy diet and to prevent food waste. We caught up with her to find out what benefits she has noticed to her organisational skills since introducing a meal planning routine into their lives.
Laura’s Meal Planning Journey
“A common theme I notice in regards to family life, especially mine, is the lack of time in the day there always feels to be. For the best part of 2019, our lives became hectic with work, studying, activities, and with my eldest child starting school. In order to try and restore some organisation, I introduced a Family Weekly Planner Calendar into our household to keep a clear track of all our commitments in one place. It has been extremely useful and has gone on to prove how beneficial being organised actually is, especially in reducing my stress level and clearing my mind of unnecessary thoughts.
This little change was a significant step and has worked wonders for our family, however, it has highlighted another area that I have been struggling with… mealtimes! We were so disorganised that some evenings we would cook four different meals in order to keep everyone happy. I felt we lacked time or were being lazy and simply not planning ahead! I also began to question the amount of money we were overspending on groceries each week in order to dine in this way. Something had to change!
Being introduced to the Big Shop and Menu Planner Fridge List gave us focus. Sunday became a day to plan ahead, and we dedicated 20 minutes to decide upon meal ideas for the upcoming week. This also tied in nicely with another change we wanted to make as a household, eating more balanced meals. As we were putting a little more thought into what we wanted to make each evening, we soon found we were incorporating healthier dishes into our week. Cooking is shared in our family so we also found noting the name of who was responsible next to each meal helpful too.
Once our seven meals have been decided, with a little help from the rest of the family, I write down the ingredients to purchase on the handy shopping list section included in the Fridge List. This is conveniently divided into categories, just as you would find different aisles in the supermarket - Game changer! What I also found pleasing is that the shopping list section has a perforated edge so you can tear it off effortlessly. There are no more random pieces of paper or scribbling on the back of envelopes five minutes before the big weekly shop.
Another great thing we really love is the clip-on pencil. It may seem trivial, but the whole design has clearly been thought through, as anyone with a hectic household knows pens always disappear the moment you need one! Because of this handy little extra feature, there is no excuse to forget anything. I’ve found that throughout the week if we finish or become low on something, I will pop it on the list ready for the next shop. I was pleasantly surprised to see there is even a pet section on the shopping list, it’s a nice touch, and something we certainly benefit from.
One final handy feature worth mentioning is the envelope at the back of the planner. It is a nice, generous size and fabulous for storing receipts, vouchers and recipe ideas in.
I love this planner. I feel it has been a great household addition, a positive move forward and something the whole family have benefitted from. It is attached to the front of our fridge for all to see and make use of and is a very valuable tool in our lives now. It’s clear to see since using the Big Shop and Menu Planner Fridge List we’re eating healthier meals, are having family orientated evenings, are more organised and less stressed. I have also found that we have actually saved a few pennies as we aren’t needlessly buying items now we’re focused on eating the same thing. Overall, it’s a win-win product that we’re so pleased to have discovered!” - Laura Apicella.
