We’ve rounded up a list of our favourite events and activities that are taking place in a location near you this February half term, but before we jump right in, let’s find out what dates the school holidays fall on this year in order for you to start planning in your family diary or calendar.
February half term dates can vary by region, so we strongly recommend you check with your child’s school or your local council before committing to any plans, but as a general guide, this year the half term break will begin on Monday 17th February, with school recommencing on Monday 24th February.
With so much happening across the length and breadth of the country, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to fun, family activities. See for yourself by taking a look below!

Bath - Become a shepherd for the day at Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park
Don your overalls and your wellies this half term, as you could by joining the animal rangers team as they care for the ewes and lambs in their maternity ewe-nit during Lambing Live! Help prepare food, assist with the lambing and take part in a private, out of hours tour of the park.

Bristol - Experience an exotic adventure at The Wild Place Project
Discover exotic animals from around the world including giraffes, cheetahs and lemurs, and unleash your own wild side with vast woodlands and natural play areas to explore. The Wild Place Project is home to many beautiful creatures and is packed with immersive experiences designed to bring you closer to the animal action.

Dorset - Celebrate 1000 years of history at Corfe Castle
This half term Corfe Castle, near Wareham in Dorset is celebrating 125 years of the National Trust through 1000 years of history at the castle. There will be historic games, medieval missile launches and even the chance for your very own brave teddy to race down a zip wire!

Cornwall - Family fun with a bang at the National Maritime Museum
Uncover surprising facts about the humble water molecule with the fabulous scientists who’ll be taking up residence at the National Maritime Museum in Cornwall this half term. There will be plenty of bangs, flashes and sparks, plus entry into the museum also gives you access to other free, fantastic events happening over half term.

Surrey - Become an undercover spy at Hampton Court Palace
Join Elizabeth I and her spymasters at Hampton Court this February half term. With a whole host of activities lined up at the palace, you will begin your day by meeting Elizabeth’s courtiers and listen in on secret conversations. Over the course of the day, you will find out who is not to be trusted and who gets into trouble for being disloyal to the Queen.

Escape to Indonesia with Kew Royal Botanic Gardens
Immerse yourself in the tropics this winter by exploring the wonders of Indonesia with Kew Gardens’ Orchid Festival. One of the prettiest events in London, adding a much-needed splash of colour at this chilly time of year, this fantastic family-friendly event focuses on Indonesia, with orchids from the archipelago on display, along with tigers, rhinos and orangutans created from flowers!

Make a splash at the London Puddle Jumping Championships
Grab your wellies and your waterproofs, as things are about to get wet! The London Puddle Jumping Championships, hosted at the Wetlands Centre, are the perfect excuse to indulge in jumping into muddy puddles. While the aim of the game is to cause the biggest splash, you can also take part in the obstacle course, and other fun activities at the centre.

Norfolk - Join The Twiggles & Boggles at BeWILDerwood!
This award-winning forest adventure is packed full of treehouses, wobbly wires, slippery slopes, Crocklebogs, Twiggles and Boggles, storytelling, boat trips, marsh walks and really yummy food! Intrigued? The only way to find out more is to begin your own adventure!

Birmingham - There’s something tasty at Cadbury World
Of all the factories in the world, this would be right at the top of our list to explore! Cadbury World offers you the chance to discover the history of chocolate, the story of Bourneville and perhaps most excitingly, the world’s biggest Cadbury shop in existence! Plus, during half term you can dine with the Cadbury characters for a delicious breakfast or afternoon tea!

Derbyshire - Hit the slopes at a Snowsports Centre
We may not have been fortunate enough to experience a good sprinkling of snow yet (although there’s still time!) but that doesn’t mean you can’t spend half term enjoying the thrills that come from colder climes! Swadlincote Snowsports Centre is a place to learn and enjoy skiing and snowboarding, or if you would prefer, there’s an equally thrilling, but slightly less extreme, tubing and tobogganing!

Nottinghamshire - Play the day away at Sundown Adventureland
We bet you’ve never heard a goat yodel or a potato talk, but you will at Sundown Adventureland! This family theme park is aimed at under 10’s, with a long list of rides and activities that will keep the whole family occupied all day long.

Yorkshire & the Humber
York - Walk amongst prehistoric giants at the Yorkshire Museum
Take an incredible journey back through 150 million years of history to discover lost Jurassic worlds at the Yorkshire Museum. Meet the dinosaurs and the sea monsters who once roamed our planet via the power of VR headsets. You’ll be trembling at the size of a terrifying Megalosaurus tooth, inspecting the flesh of an Ichthyosaur and even serving a Sauropod dinosaur its supper thanks to the latest technology in place at this exhibit!

Leeds - Love is in the air at Wildlife World, Lotherton
Learn about Humboldt penguins, take part in feathered crafts and follow the Love Birds trail around the beautiful Lotherton Estate this half term. There’s a whole heap of half term holiday fun for you to explore, take part in dressing up and get involved with crafts or join in at the penguin pool for feeding time! Perhaps best of all, Love Birds is a free event with normal admission into Lotherton.

Cheshire - Join the hunt for bugs and beasties at Lyme Park, Stockport
Take a trip to the beautiful Lyme Park this February half term to join the hunt for creepy crawlies. There’s a whole host of creatures that reside at this magnificent stately home, take part in the trail to discover what’s lurking indoors or let the kids loose on the grounds by putting their sporting skills to the test with a range of games and activities.

Cheshire - Inspire a young scientist at Jodrell Bank
Jodrell Bank has an exciting programme of events this half term which is sure to inspire the mini astronaut in your family. There’s a spectacular science show running three times a day, space crafts for creative little ones and even the chance for you to put your questions to the discovery centres team of scientists and astronomy experts.

Get snowed under at one of Scotland’s five ski resorts
If you’re lucky enough to find yourself in Scotland over February half term why not make the most of the winter weather by visiting one of the many popular ski resorts! You will find everything you need, including ski school and equipment hire at the resorts, giving you no excuse to miss out on the fun!

Swim with sharks at Scotland’s National Aquarium
Home to hundreds of wild and wonderful sea creatures, Scotland’s National Aquarium is the perfect place to peer into an underwater world. Time your visit to coincide with feeding times for extra excitement, or if you’re feeling brave, why not get up close and personal with sand tiger sharks by taking part in one of the aquarium’s diving experiences!

A whole host of smaller train lines in Wales are running special half term journeys suitable for the whole family. From winter warmer events that transport you to cosy tearooms, to free journeys for little ones ending in glorious picnic spots, there’s an adventure that awaits you!

Test your stamina with a competitive race in Rhyl
Whether you fancy the chance to lace up your trainers, or you simply want to cheer on those who do, the Rhyl 10 Mile Run takes place over a flat course along the beautiful North Wales coastline. There’s even a fun-run suitable for all ages taking place too, with all finishers receiving a medal.
