British Stationery Company Boxclever Press gains Royal Recognition

Abbie Bartlett

We are thrilled to announce that Her Majesty The Queen has approved the Prime Minister's recommendation that Boxclever Press should receive a Queen's Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category, the highest official UK award for British businesses./p>

This is a huge honour for us and one that is normally reserved for much larger businesses - we’re joined in our success by exactly 200 other British businesses.  It was our achievement at growing our overseas sales by 605% in three years that made our application stand out from the literally thousands of applications they received.  To win for Outstanding Growth makes it even more prestigious.

We’ve been invited up to the palace in June to meet HRH The Prince of Wales and then the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset will come to visit us here in Wincanton to meet us all and understand our business on behalf of the Queen.

Learning how to sell our products in different languages and work with customers overseas has been amazing fun and overcoming the hurdles and difficulties that red tape and the rigours of import/export has been a real challenge for us.

When I started this business nearly 15 years ago, I didn’t understand all the long term business planning that is so much a part of my role today.  It’s probably a very good thing too as if I’d known what we would end up achieving and doing I think I would have been too stage struck / overawed to start!

It’s so easy to forget that the whole thing was started with £200, two children under the age of four and a lot of hope.  With zero knowledge of the publishing industry, or indeed how to run a business it’s been a steep learning curve and I’ve loved practically every moment of it.

We are incredibly grateful to our customers for their support of our brand, from our Organised Mum days, and now we’re Boxclever Press, as well as our much loved products.  Exporting is brilliant as everything is still done from our base here in South Somerset but we get to share our ideas across the world.

Thank you again for your support over the years
